Lintangan Ancestral Domain holds 2nd Community Assembly

The Department of Agriculture—MIADP RPCO IX spearheaded a successful 2nd Community Assembly in the Ancestral Domain of Lintangan, Sibuco, Zamboanga del Norte on January 16 – 17, 2025. The assembly took place across several barangays in AD-Lintangan (Barangay Lintangan, Barangay Malayal, Barangay Paniran, Barangay Bongalao, Barangay Lingayon, Barangay Tangarak, Portion of Barangay Sto Niño, Portion of Barangay Limpapa). The event aimed to provide the community with a comprehensive overview of the DA-MIADP and to present the ongoing formulation of the Ancestral Domain Agricultural Implementation Framework (ADAIF). The assembly also served as a platform for validating the data incorporated into the ADAIF, ensuring that the information accurately reflects the needs and priorities of the local Indigenous Peoples (IPs).

Deputy Project Director Maria Gemma S. Genaldo graced the event, highlighting the agency’s commitment to fostering inclusive agricultural development in ancestral domains. She was joined by Ms. Jonah Lyn D. Corpus, Component 3 (AD-Entrep) Unit Head, Mr. Jose Jacinto B. Antonio, Admin and Finance Unit Head, and personnel from Da-MIADP RPCO IX.

The Indigenous Political Structure (IPS) of the Lintangan Ancestral Domain actively participated in the assembly, collaborating with the DA-MIADP team to ensure that the community’s insights and feedback were effectively integrated into the ADAIF. This collaborative approach underscores the project’s dedication to empowering Indigenous communities through participatory development planning.

Community members expressed appreciation for the inclusive process, acknowledging the efforts of the DA-MIADP team in aligning the ADAIF with the socio-economic aspirations of the Ancestral Domain. The assembly concluded with a shared commitment to advancing sustainable agricultural initiatives that respect and preserve indigenous heritage. The DA-MIADP continues to engage Indigenous communities across Mindanao, fostering partnerships that promote equitable agricultural growth and long-term resilience.
